Children are precious. They hold the future of a nation, yet many children are neglected, illiterate, sick and dying from preventable diseases.
CMA is committed to breaking the cycle of poverty in children’s lives. We support children programs in several slums in Nairobi, and remote areas of Kenya. These children come from very poor families. For most, the one meal they get at school is their only meal for the day. Some carry the food home to share with their siblings.
CMA offers a strong foundation for life through holistic child development projects that nurture continued physical, emotional and spiritual wellbeing.
School feeding programs and educational support
For many kids in the slums of Kenya, the promise of tomorrow is not always promising. For them, it may mean another day gone by on an empty stomach, another day spent scavenging for food in the garbage pits and yet another day of uncertainty. They are never sure of having a sound education, never sure of clothes on their back and never sure where their next meal will come from. And so they live each day as it comes. But through Christian Mission Aid (CMA), these kids have reason to hope for tomorrow. Mitumba slum, on the outskirts of Nairobi, Kenya, is home to 15,000 people most of whom are single CMA supports children in the slums of Kenya by providing for both their physical and spiritual needs. Through CMA, these kids have a guarantee of a daily meal, clothes on their back and an education. The nutritious and well-balanced meal they receive at school is often the only meal the children have in the day. CMA also provides the children with uniforms, shoes, school supplies like notebooks, textbooks, pencils, and so on. CMA has also built classrooms for the schools so the students can have conducive studying and learning places in their challenging environments and has sponsored many successful graduates to attend high-school.
Christmas in the Slums
Every Christmas, CMA visits the slums of Nairobi to share the nativity story with hundreds of children and their parents. They not only learn that Jesus was born in a humble manger to save them so long ago, but that he still loves them so richly and longs to be in their lives and live in their humble homes today. Through CMA they can experience his real love and provision for them from the Christmas gifts and food they receive. In addition to a scrumptious meal, the parents get food buckets with all sorts of healthy and essential food stuffs that enable them to cook for their families up to weeks after. CMA also invites visitors and local donors to attend these ‘Christmas parties’, an exciting experience not soon forgotten for the indescribable joy they acts of kindness leave in their wake.
Provision of special gifts (shoes, toys, candy, juice, stuffed animals, clothes)
CMA works to meet the continuous needs of the children in the slum areas of Kenya by meeting their very real and immediate needs.
Sometimes the children cannot go to school because they do not have shoes, or uniforms or school materials.
Other times they wander around wearing the same threadbare clothes for years in rain or shine, often getting sick during the cold winters.
In addition to addressing these immediate needs, CMA does more.
We share God’s message of love in fun and creative ways, and give the children special gifts they often have never received before, like toys, candy, juice and stuffed animals, which they treasure dearly.
Youth camps and Vacation Bible Schools (VBS)
Every school holiday (April, August and December) CMA seeks to nurture children spiritually though life-changing Christian Youth Camps and Vaction Bible Schools.
These children are transforming whole families and communities with their testimonies.
For most of the kids, it is their first time to a camp and a treasured opportunity to leave
their challenging environments in the slum areas or remote parts of the country, to experience fun games, great food, deep fellowship and recieve a message of hope for the future in Christ.
Their experiences are life-changing and not only strengthen their faith in the face of their hardships, but also bring Christ to others in their lives.
