Deaf Ministry

In Kenya, there are an estimated 600,000 deaf people, many of whom are ignored, marginalized, illiterate and stigmatized. Many have never heard the Gospel message, nor do they know about social and economic issues that affect them. Understanding their disadvantaged circumstances, Christian Mission Aid launched ministries to reach out to the deaf communities. As a result, many hearing impaired adults, youth and children have been provided with opportunities to hear the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and have been empowered with knowledge and life skills for a better life.

Units Of Hope

Driven by the desire to reach out with the love of Christ by providing emergency relief and development assistance to poor and vulnerable communities, CMA pioneered the fight against HIV/AIDS in Western Kenya. CMA’s intervention sought to address prevention, treatment, care & support as well as mitigation of socio-economic impact. One of the projects that has proved quite relevant to the needs of widows is the Unit of Hope, which CMA constructs a two-room house, a latrine, shower room and a water tank with a rain catchment system replacing the dilapidated house the widows live in and provides a purebred milking goat or seeds and tools which gives the widow a means of an income and a livelihood for her and her children.

SMART GIRL & BOY INITIATIVE

Many Kenyan school going girls cannot afford sanitary items, and as a result, miss class every year due to their menstrual cycles. School absence lowers girls’ academic performance and self-esteem and widens gender disparities. Through Christian Mission Aid’s Smart Girl program, adolescent girls are provided with educational lectures, counselling and sanitary kits, giving them a better understanding and confidence of who they are and allowing them to stay in school. Young adolescent boys are also provided with lectures and education on pear pressure, drugs, character building, health, sexual matters and proper behavior in relationships. All education and counselling on based on Christian principles.
